Learn from Dr. Ruha Benjamin, professor of African American Studies at Princeton University, how and why racism persists as a form of vision and division.  Dr. Benjamin will share the challenges faced by community colleges related to technology, data and equity, including teaching and learning online, and how this impacts the student experience.  She will offer a toolkit to better understand how racism distorts our relationships, communities, and institutions, and what we as individuals and as a campus can do about it.  Students will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion on opportunities for careers in STEM.

 

 

Dr. Ruha Benjamin is a professor of African American Studies at Princeton University and author of People's Science: Bodies and Rights on the Stem Cell Frontier (Stanford University Press) and Race After Technology: Abolitionist Tools for the New Jim Code (Polity 2019). She has studied the social dimensions of science, technology, and medicine for over fifteen years and speaks widely on issues of innovation, equity, health, and justice in the U.S. and globally. She is currently working on her next book, Viral Justice: How We Grow the World We Want, born out of the twin plagues of COVID-19 and police violence. Dr. Benjamin is the founding director of the IDA B. WELLS Just Data Lab, and a faculty associate in the Center for Information Technology Policy, Program on History of Science, Center for Health and Wellbeing, and Program on Gender and Sexuality Studies.  To read more about Dr. Benjamin please visit www.ruhabenjamin.com

Sunday, April 17, midnight PST is the deadline to drop a full-term (17 week) course with a W for withdrawal. The deadline to drop with a W for a short course is within 60% of the course. For short courses deadlines, refer to your myCuesta Class Schedule/Receipt in Student Registration Services in portal. Deadlines are also posted in Class Finder by clicking on CRN after search results.

In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, the Cuesta Cultural Center is hosting an Instagram contest featuring the rich history of Asian Americans in San Luis Obispo County.

How do you participate?

1.  Take a picture of yourself at one of the Asian American historical sites found on the Cuesta AAPI Month webpage: https://bit.ly/CuestaAAPI

2.  Post it to your IG account and tag @cuestaculturalcenter for a chance to win a $50 gift card to It's Really Yogurt or Sweetie Cup Tea.

The 2022 CISOA Scholarship application period is now open! 

The California Community College's Chief Information Systems Officers Association (CISOA) established the annual scholarship program benefiting California Community College Students.

 

The 2022 CISOA Student Scholarship Program will award up to 15 scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each to students currently enrolled in college at least part-time (6 units) with a 3.0 GPA or higher and a declared major in an Information Technology related field (Computer Networking, MIS, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Electronics, etc.)

 

Each applicant will be required to provide a personal statement outlining their educational goals and how they plan to use the scholarship funds.

Applications accepted from March 1, 2022 - April 15, 2022

Recipients will be notified by May 14, 2022.
